This holy church enshrines the mortal remains of Saint Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni),

who was laid to rest here on November 3, 1902.

                 Holy Churches Associated with the Life and Legacy of Saint Gregorios Geevarghese (Parumala Thirumeni)

[1]   Mar Thoman Church,  Mulunthuruthy                 

  • Home Parish of Saint Gregorios geevarghese (Parumala Thirumeni).

  • Saint Mor Gregorios of Parumala  was baptized in this church.

  • Saint Mor Gregorios of Parumala  was elevated to the order of Ramban (monk) in this church by His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Peter III, who later appointed him the Patriarchal Secretary.

  • In this holy church, on 20th December 1987, the historic proclamation of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas of Antioch was read — declaring that the sacred name of St. Thomas the Apostle be included in the Fourth Thubden, and the names of Moran Mor Ignatius Elias III, Mor Baselios Yeldo Maphriyono, and Saint Mor Gregorios of Malankara (Parumala Thirumeni) in the Fifth Thubden of the Holy Qurbono.

Legacy and Heritage of the Parish

  • Founded in the 11th century, this sacred parish stands as a testament to the enduring faith and heritage of the Syrian Christian community.

  • The holy tombs of the revered Antiochean Patriarchal Delegates - Mor Ivanios Hidayathulla (AD 1693), Mor Gregorios Yuhanon (AD 1773), and Mor Koorilose Yuyakkim (AD 1874) - lie within this church, a lasting testimony to their mission in preserving the Syrian Orthodox faith in Malankara.

  • In AD 1876, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Peter III convened the historic ‘Mulanthuruthy Synod’ in this church, a momentous event that led to the formation of the ‘Syrian Christian Association’ — a milestone in the history of the Malankara Syrian Church.

  • This sacred church was privileged to host the Holy Mooron (Chrism) consecrations in Malankara in AD 1876 and AD 1911, officiated by the venerable Patriarchs of Antioch, His Holiness Mor Ignatius Peter III and His Holiness Mor Ignatius Abded Aloho II.

  • Home parish of former Malankara Metropolitan St Koorilose Paulose Kochuparambil (Panampady, 1917)

  • The former Patriarchs of the Apostolic See of Antioch — His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Yaʿqub III and His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas — had graced this church with their blessed visits.

  • The Holy Relics of St. Thomas the Apostle were installed in this church on 3rd July 1994 by the Apostolic Delegate of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas.

  • The present Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan, His Beatitude Mor Baselios Joseph I, hails from the esteemed Srambical Pallathitta family of this parish. His Beatitude is the great-grandson of the brother of Saint Parumala Thirumeni, thus sharing the blessed lineage of that holy saint.

[2]   St. George  Cathedral,  Karingachira 

  • In AD 1857, Saint Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni) was ordained to the first rank of priesthood, Korooyo (Sub-Deacon), by Mor Athanasius Mathews in this church.

  • This ancient parish traces its foundation to AD 722, bearing witness to one of the earliest Christian communities in Malankara.

[3]   Mar Thoma Church, Kothamangalam

  • In this sacred church, Saint Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni) was ordained to the order of Shamshono (Full Deacon) by Saint Koorilos Yuyakkim in AD 1864 (some records note AD 1865).

  • Within this holy church rests the sacred tomb of Maphriyono Saint Baselios Yeldho, who entered into eternal rest and was entombed here in AD 1685.

[4]   Mor Sabor Mor Aphroth Church, Akaparambu

  • Saint Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni) was ordained Kassisso (Full Priest) and Corepiscopa in this church by Saint Koorilos Yuyakkim in AD 1864 (or AD 1865).

  • This ancient church, believed to have been founded in AD 825 through the preaching of Holy Gospel by the Syrian Christian missionaries Mor Sabor and Mor Aphroth

  • Home parish of the former Metropolitan of the Angamali Diocese, His Grace Mor Gregorios Vayaliparambil.

[5]   St. Thomas  Church,   North Paravur

  • In this sacred church, on 10th December AD 1876, Saint Gregorios of Parumala (Parumala Thirumeni) was ordained as Metropolitan by His Holiness Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Peter IV.

  • This church is blessed as the resting place of Saint Gregorios Abdul Jaleel, whose sacred tomb lies here (departed on 27 April 1681).
